Jess Power

The act of painting for Jess Power is an act of searching. Her paintings feel alive and full of potential, inviting the viewer to attempt making sense of the strange spaces and forms. With an experimental yet delicate handling of materials, she poses questions rather than stating positions. Her paintings give visual form to a variety of conflicting internal sensations. They bring together symbolic structures, reminiscent of fountains and mysterious mechanisms, with diagrammatic elements, pure mark making, deep scratches and luminescent transparencies. The paintings feel like working drawings, where forms and ideas develop and grow as the material has been manipulated. They are like thoughts, caught in motion.
